Character Series: Death Note Age: 27 years old Background: (Why yes, I did make up his childhood!) Matsuda Tota was born into a middle class family in Japan. His father was part of the Japanese police force, and his mother as part-time secretary. There was an older sister, but no one talked about her. His parents tried to encourage a strong sense of right and wrong into their child, as well as a yearning for knowledge. Although not a straight A student, Matsuda put his best effort into school – often driving his teachers mad with his incessant questions. In his sophomore year Matsuda’s father was shot in the line of duty. Despite his own sorrow and his mother’s worrying, the death only strengthened Matsuda’s resolve to fight against injustice. Eventually he applied to the Criminal Investigation Bureau, hoping to follow in his father’s footsteps. Despite his awkwardness, Matsuda was accepted in the police agency; perhaps because of his dedication and great gun skills. Some years later, Matsuda was asked by Soichiro Yagami – an older man who had taken Matsuda under his wing, and to whom the young boy looked up to with great respect – to join an investigation which would hunt down Kira with the help of the famous detective L. Matsuda quickly agreed to join, and found himself part of a secret group fighting against crime. He was finally doing something important – something that would have made his father proud. But – there was something nagging at him. Kira was a serial murderer – yes. But he only killed the guilty; those that had committed horrendous crimes themselves. Was Kira really so different from himself and the rest of the police force? From himself? Matsuda constantly struggled with this idea, but whenever he voiced his questionings vocally he was quickly told to shut his mouth. He worked hard – often sacrificing sleep and his own life in order to help the investigation. When the final showdown came and all the unmasking had been done Matsuda was heartbroken. He had been betrayed. All of his loyalty to Light had amounted to nothing. He had been used, led around on a wild goose chase while the enemy had been in his very midst. Had been his hero. Betrayed as he was, Matsuda was not vengeful. Only sadness filled his heart as he aimed his gun, the tears blurring his vision and his shaking muscles bouncing the gun up and down. As he had been taught to do all his life, Matsuda did his duty to Japan, to Soichiro, to his father. Personality: First and foremost, Matsuda is loyal. But this does not equate to following orders without thinking about the morality of his decisions. Matsuda is also somewhat socially awkward – often saying things at inopportune times. Because of this he has a low sense of self-worth and tries to please those around him. When asked, he does not procrastinate before following through on his word. He also tries to keep his appearance as neat as possible. Matsuda generally avoids drinking, having seen the negative influences it had on his older sister and not wanting to embarrass himself even more than he usually does. Ever since he had been left home alone for time periods when both of his parents were working, Matsuda has loved soap operas. He followed them religiously, and because of this has a great memory for names and faces, as well as an attraction to drama. Matsuda loves gossip. Matsuda has neat penmanship due to note-keeping in both work and in his journal. In his off-time, Matsuda keeps up a blog dedicated to his favorite soaps. Matsuda rarely swears, using foul language only when he feels very passionate. He hates letting others down, feeling un-informed or unintelligent, and not being clean. | ||
